Cacti of the North 9/16, 5-7pm
Nestled on the edges of rocky outcrops and exposed bedrock in the back of Quarry Park waits a surprising find—brittle prickly pear cactus. Believe it or not, it’s just one of 3 types of cacti found in Minnesota, and a rarity in Central MN. Join naturalist, Devon Bowker, for a hike to see these cacti, learn about how they survive our climate, and other amazing facts about the nature of cacti!
Birding with a Smartphone 9/23, 5-7 pm
Join naturalist, Devon Bowker, to learn the basics of birding, the WWASCAL method, and then grab your smart device to hit the trails! Download the ‘Merlin Bird ID’ app available for free on both Google Play and the Apple App Store. Binoculars recommended.
Plant Identification 101, 5-7 pm
Join naturalist, Devon Bowker, to learn how to use simple observations of flower color, pedal type, and leaf/stem shape and texture to identify plants. Take it a step further by bringing your smart device and downloading the app iNaturalist (available for free on both Google Play and the Apple App Store) to help you make your identifications and log your finds!
To register, call the Park Office at 320.255.6172 or email parkinfo@co.stearns.mn.us
I hope to see you there!
